Q. When will DiGRA 2007 take place?
A. September 24 to 28, 2007, immediately after Tokyo Game Show. The dates are now fixed.
Q. I am planning to submit a paper. What is the submission format? How can I submit my paper?
A. The template is here: DiGRA2007_fullpaper_template.doc. An online submission system will be activated on Feb. 1, 2007.
Q. Will there be a printed proceedings?
A. Yes, all the papers in the "full paper" category will be pulished in the paper proceedings.
Q. I am planning to submit a panel proposal. Do each panelist have to submit his or her paper as well?
A. Yes. Each paper will be evaluated by the Review Committee. Based on the evaluation, the program committee decides whether to accept the panel as a whole, or only some of the papers.
Q. I am not an academic, and I am not going to submit a full paper, but I would like to present my work at DiGRA 2007. Are there other formats of presentation?
A. Yes. We are planning to offer less rigid formats of presentation for non-academics, students, or anyone who would like to present work in progress or unconventional form of work. The exact formats are under discussion at this moment.
Q. Can I use a credit card to register and book a hotel for this conference?
A. Yes.
Q. Who are planned to give plenary talks?
A. At this point, Prof. Edward Castronova agreed to give one plenary talk. There will be at least one more plenary by an academic. In addition, we plan to invite one (or possibly two) prominent Japanese game developer for a plenary talk.
Q. What symposia are planned?
A. There will be a symposium on international comparison of game cultures organized by Frans Mäyrä. Tanya Krzywinska will organize another symposium on MMORPG. Jason della Rocca is organizing a symposium on Japanese game industry through the eyes of non-Japanese workers. There will a symposium on Otaku/Akihabara culture organized by Hiroki Azuma and Masataka Yoshida.
Q. Will there be excursions?
A. An excursion to Akihabara, the capital of Japanese otaku culture, is under consideration. If you are interested, please contact the local organizing committee and give us your inputs. It is very helpful to know to what extent such an excursion is in demand.
Q. I would like to participate in the conference organization or volunteer as a reviewer.
A. Please contact the Local Organizing Committee. We welcome any kind of help.
Q. How can I cite items of a alphabetically ordered & numbered list?
A. One way to do this is to use MS Word's "cross-reference" function. First, generate a numbered list of reference with the first item of your reference list. The list must be numbered with MS Word's Numbering function. It is usually generated automatically, but if you are not sure, select the list, and select "Bullets and numbering..." in the "Format" menu, or just click the numbering icon on the toolbar. Then, use cross-reference ("Insert"-"Reference"-"Cross-reference" on the menu) to cite the number (in this case "1") within the text. Repeat this as you have a new reference item in the paper. When you finish the paper (or at any point of your writing), select the entire text, right click and select "Update Field" or press F9.
Q. How can I send inquiries, comments, requests, complaints, or protests?
A. Send your communications directly to the DiGRA 2007 Local Organizing Commitee at digra2007[at]gmail[dot]com.
