Paul Bouckaert, Conference Publicity Paul Bouckaert is a student Communication and information sciences specializing in new media and digital culture at the University of Utrecht.
Zuraida Buter, Game Exhibition Zuraida Buter studies New Media and Digital Culture at the University of Utrecht. She has written several essays on videogames, each from a different viewpoint. She is especially interested in games that make use of the body in a more involving way. In her increasingly rare spare time she likes to watch anime and play all kinds of videogames, particularly RPG's, and is currently addicted to Frequency. She is also a fervent collector of videogames and consoles but is regrettably far from having collected everything in the video games world.
Marinka Copier, Conference Manager Marinka Copier is junior researcher and teacher in new media studies at the University of Utrecht. She studied history, womens studies, cultural education and new media at Utrecht University. Copier is currently working on her PhD on the construction of space and identity in fantasy role-playing games and the (sub) culture surrounding these games.
Jorn van der Ent Jorn van der Ent is a student Communication and information sciences specializing in new media and digital culture at the University of Utrecht. He is particularly interested in "the internet & civil liberties" and "the hacker subculture.
Jeffrey Goldstein Jeffrey Goldstein is in the Department of Social and Organizational Psychology at the University of Utrecht. He is the author or editor of 15 books, including Toys, Play and Child Development (Cambridge University Press), Why We Watch: The Attractions of Violent Entertainment (Oxford University Press), and Sports, Games and Play (Lawrence Erlbaum Associates). With Joost Raessens, he is editor of Handbook of Computer Game Studies (MIT Press). He is on the advisory committee of the Entertainment Software Rating Board (New York), and the Netherlands Institute for the Classification of Audio Visual Media. He was co-organizer of the London conference, Toys, games and media, August 2002.
Keimpe de Heer, Conference Documentation Keimpe de Heer is currently attending the master program: New Media and Digital Culture. He wrote several essays on the dynamics of computer games and completed his bachelor with an essay on children and digital games.
Hanne Marckmann, Game fest Coordinator Hanne Marckmann graduated cum laude as a commercial copy-writer from Art School (Willem de Kooning academy, Rotterdam) in 2000, after which she studied New Media and Digital Culture at the University of Utrecht. During this study (2001-2002) she worked part-time on acquisition and communication at a company that produces interactive media for children. At the moment she is finishing her final essay on computer games within philosophy of technology and works freelance as a copywriter at an advertising agency for children and youngsters in Schiedam. Recently, she finished Kingdom Hearts on the PS2. Besides computergames and boardgames, she also likes playing records.
Sabine Niederer, Conference Producer After various jobs and internships and in the field of arts and new media, and a study of art history at the University of Utrecht, Sabine Niederer is currently working as a programming manager at hoogt4, the audio-visual arts program at Filmtheatre 't Hoogt in Utrecht. Sabine Niederer attends program committees for various art festivals and screenings.
Elja Polak, Webmaster Elja Polak is a junior teacher in new media studies at the University of Utrecht and the webmaster of gamesconference.org. He studied film, and television studies and is currently working on a filmeducational computergame for secundary schools.
Joost Raessens, Conference Chair Joost Raessens is associate professor of new media studies at the University of Utrecht. He studied philosophy, French, and film at the University of Nijmegen, the Sorbonne (Paris), and the Erasmus University (Rotterdam). Raessens is a member of the Research Institute for Philosophy of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) at the Erasmus University. He has published on philosophy of art, cinematography, and cyberspace. With Jeffrey Goldstein, he is editor of Handbook of Computer Game Studies (MIT Press).
Remco La Rivire, Assistant Coordinator Game fest Remco La Rivire studied Language - and Culture Studies at the University of Utrecht and completed his Bachelor with an essay on Game Research. Next February he will start the Master program in New Media and Digital Culture. He's planning to write his master thesis on the representation of economical systems in games.
Rotterdam DC, Hans Foks, Conference Design Martijn Rietveld, Hans Foks and Joey Vermijs graduated as graphic designers at the 'Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam' in the year 2000. During their studies, they already made a beginning with a designers group called Rotterdam Design Center, where professional assignments, cultural projects and experiments are being performed. This formula brought them so much fun and success, that a long term cooperation was the natural result. Rotterdam DC has accomplished assignments for different (cultural) institutions in Rotterdam like the 'Willem de Kooning Academy Rotterdam', Rotterdam', 'RO theater', 'Poetry International', 'CBK', 'Passionate', 'Off_Corso' and many others. The designers herewith use various forms of media like printed matter, internet and video. Besides the cultural projects, DC also has a range of other (international) customers. For example the 'Kasander Film Company', 'Quick Sports-fashion', 'MXI Managers' and the 'Erasmus Medical Center'. The boys from DC are really devoted to their work, in which quality has the highest priority.
