Clans: United we stand

More people are connecting to the internet everyday. Consequently more people are playing games online. In our paper we are focussing on the social aspects of online-games; clans. A clan is a group of people who are a part of a certain game-community. They play the game online against other teams in order to gain respect and to have fun. A whole new social dimension is constituted due to multiplayer games. In our research we are using the game Medal of Honor: Allied Assault as our case study. What's a clan? How do clans act in combination with mods, cracks and patches? Do clans only exist online or do they also have real-life consequences, like friendships? What features does a (first person shooter) game, in our case Medal of Honor, need to have to be suitable for building clans? What kind of influence do clans have on the game-industry? These are important questions while researching clan-based games.
